Hair-oiling is a tradition that has been passed down from one generation to the other. Our mothers & grandmothers, have been smearing tons of oil into our hair, and massaging it into our scalp and temples, since centuries.
Oiling the hair has excellent benefits:

Follow the given steps to understand the correct way of applying hair oil:
- Take your favourite oil, and gently warm it in a small bowl. Warm oil is said to be better absorbed in the scalp.
- Then dip your fingers into the oil (be sure not to make it too hot) and gently massage the oil on the roots of your hair and the scalp in a circular motion using your fingertips.
- Massage for at least 10-15 min, gently (not vigorously), the entire scalp, and temples.
- Leave it on, overnight.
- The next day, use Mango Herbs Anti-Hair Fall shampoo to wash your hair. Rinse thoroughly. Shampoo twice, to remove all the traces of oil from the hair.
- If leaving oil on overnight isn’t possible, you can oil your hair an hour or two before you bathe and wrap your head with a hot towel. This will extract some nutrition from the oil in a short time frame.
- Always keep in mind that after applying oil in your hair, you should remain indoors, as its very easy for the oiled hair to gather dust from outside environment.
- Oiling at least once-twice a week, ideally a night before you plan to wash your hair, would be best for you.
HOW MUCH OIL SHOULD YOU APPLY ?
Less is more with regards to a hair oiling routine. It is not about the amount of oil you apply but how well you do it. So, apply enough oil that covers your scalp and hair but not so much that it starts dripping. Also, the more oil you apply, the more shampoo you will need to wash it off, which can also dry your hair.
SHOULD THE OIL BE APPLIED ON WET HAIR OR DRY HAIR ?
The best time to apply oil to your hair is when they are dry. This is because dry hair are more porous, which allows them to absorb the oil more effectively, and the oil can form a protective layer on the hair shaft, which can help to prevent damage.
If you apply oil to wet hair, the oil may not penetrate the hair shaft effectively, and it may mix with the water on your hair, diluting the oil and making it less effective.
HOW TO USE THE OIL FOR DIFFERENT HAIR TYPES ?
If you have dry or curly hair, you may want to oil your hair more frequently, as these hair types tend to be more prone to dryness and breakage. On the other hand, if you have oily hair or a sensitive scalp, you may want to oil your hair less often, as excessive oiling can cause scalp irritation and greasiness. It is generally not recommended to use hair oil if you have excessively oily hair.
Similarly, overnight oiling can be beneficial for your hair, especially if you have dry or damaged hair. But if you have oily hair, avoid keeping the oil overnight, and wash it within 1-2 hours of application.
WARNING
If you have acne on your face or on your forehead, oil can further clog the pores and aggravate the acne. If your hair is oily, the oil may seep onto your face and result in acne and skin problems. To help avoid this situation, be sure to wash your hair every day to keep extra oil off of your forehead, face and back.
